I began upcycling bed sheets in 2024, and it’s since become an ongoing project. I regularly search eBay and thrift shops for unique designs that truly resonate with me. Modern fabrics featuring pop culture icons often feel repetitive and lack the explosiveness I seek in fashion. Vintage sheets allowed me to revive forgotten franchises like Dick Tracy and highlight some of the best character designs, such as those seen on the X-Men sheets featuring artwork by comic legend Jim Lee. This project expanded into my product development class, where sustainability was a key requirement for a group assignment. Our group embraced sustainability by using sheets from local thrift shops, which ultimately evolved into a teal and triangle print baseball jacket and shorts—demonstrating how the idea went beyond just button-up shirts. It was exciting to apply my personal idea to a group project and see it come to life a feeling I continue to chase.
