Sewing projects outside of school began as a way to create pieces that fit my personal style, but it quickly evolved into a way to make unique gifts for my family, sharing my craft with those who deserve it most. While projects at school were often made to fit a family member, special occasions like Mother’s Day, birthdays, and Christmas gave me the chance to create truly one-of-a-kind pieces. My mother’s modern style encouraged me to step outside my usual retro aesthetic while, my sister’s Western style pushed me to explore designs that are a far departure from my streetwear style. With the arrival of my new nephew, I’ve been able to make bibs that reflect my sister’s interests, and will eventually dive into children’s wear. It’s been a rewarding challenge to sew items that reflect their unique tastes while expanding my own skills.
